Ready To Read - Teaching/Tutoring

Ready to Read is a program that allows volunteers to read to preschool children
(3-6 years old). Volunteers read at local preschools for an hour on weekday
mornings. Volunteer once a month, once a week, or more! By using some simple
techniques, readers are able to help children become actively involved in the
reading experience, developing their vocabulary and other essential pre-reading
skills. Help bring more literacy experiences into the lives of Lafayette's
preschool-aged children!

Anyone who is interested in being a volunteer reader can just show up for a
training -- no preregistration is necessary. The only requirement to being a
volunteer reader is the desire to read to kids and attending ONE 90-minute training session. Training sessions are held in the
second floor of the West Lafayette Public Library (208 West Columbia, West
Lafayette, 47906) every second Wednesday (4:30-6pm) and fourth Tuesday (10:30-
12pm) of every month.
